Yesterday, the American people spoke, and we now have a new president. Their choice for this position shows how drastically America has changed over these past few years. The transformation from Bush to Obama demonstrates the wide variety of people that can change this country. Do you think that musicians have the power to affect people in this same way?
Some people believe that musicians should stick to writing about what they know and stay out of issues such as politics. However, I disagree with this. Musicians have the power to affect the younger generations and send out a message that will stay with the listener. Lyrics get stuck in your head and force you to think about them, as opposed to political speeches that have a tendency to go in one ear and out the other. The younger generation should have a strong say in the future for our country and having a musician promote a politician is far more interesting than listening to him talk about himself. I would much rather listen to Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship talk about the elction than John McCain.

I definitely agree that musicians can hold a special talent of spreading the message. While others may say that musicians should stay out of politics, they don't take into account the messages of the daily struggles that are expressed in songs. By doing this, listeners can learn more about politics and use that to help their involvement in the election community. Also, I see no problem in someone trying to use their power for the greater good of the people. Unfortunately, people pay attention to things easier when things relate to them. The younger generation feeds on music in life, and a song is a brilliant way to inform someone.
